From Hugh Potter's Sankey Album: Part 7More views taken by the Editor of NarrowBoat magazine from the early days of his career.
Above: Winwick Lock, looking North from the embankment of the M62, which severed the waterway. The inset shows Watery Lane swing bridge (arrowed) in June 1968. Below: Winwick Dry Dock. At this time it was still connected to the canal, and the sluice at the far end stopped the water flowing away. The sluice is long gone, which enables water from the Sankey to back up the drain-off channel to fill the dock whenever flood and tides combine. The main pictures were taken in August 1972.
