Vandalism is at present causing great concern with the boat owners of West Bank Boat Club with every boat in the canal suffering from some form of attack.
The other matter the new Mersey Crossing is at the Public Inquiry stage, this open on Wednesday 27th May with progress being made on the realignment of the canal under the new bridge.

Apart from the Fiddlers Ferry incident (reported elsewhere) there appears to have been some response to my comment in the last report about the new footpath crossing the canal at Bewsey Tip Nature Reserve. A recent visit confirmed what I had been told that the pipes through the path have been removed and the path lowered. (Left)
The Interpretation Board has now been installed at Bewsey Lock. (Above)

Progress is being made with Blackbrook Heritage Centre and SCARS volunteers will be on site in July to do some more work on the basin.
Hopes that one obstruction in St Helens might eventually be removed have been dashed by news that an Act of Parliament is being sought to reopen the branch line railway to St.Helens Junction from St.Helens Central. This may be connected with the electrification proposed for the Liverpool - Manchester line, which will bring visual changes to the Sankey Viaduct, if overhead lines are installed.
