HUGH POTTER'S ALBUM: Part 1
Last February the former Editor of WATERWAYS WORLD magazine visited the Sankey to research on article on the canal's 250th Anniversary. It was not his first visit - he had been here a few times before, and he later sent us a disc with scans of pictures he took in 1968 and 1972. We'll be reproducing them here over the next few issues, with his kind permission. Above is a view of "The Hotties". The building on the left stands where the Hilton is now, with Tesco's and its car park on the right. Below, the "Burgy Banks" are seen beyond the New Double Lock and its cottage on the Ravenhead Branch of the canal. Both were taken in June 1968.
