Flying Our FlagThe pictures on our index page and map page are a neat summing-up of how SCARS works - our regular Work Parties not only improve the visible structure of the canal's features, but they also attract attention to our ambitions to restore the Canal, and enlist the support of local people to the cause. Our links with the wider waterways community - the IWA and its heavy gang, the Waterway Recovery Group (which we're saying Thank-you for on the index page) - not only give us the opportunity to be aware of what is going on elsewhere on the waterways, but also provides us with a resource for tapping into both physical help and experience of working with the agencies which have the resources to carry the restoration through to completion. Our Exhibition and Sales Stall, travelling to national and local events, not only raises useful sums of cash, but also brings us into contact with the general public over a wide area, helping to build up support for the restoration. We've been doing this for nearly two decades - plugging away patiently. In the next few months we will be stepping up our efforts. The support we have received in the past year from our Local Authority partners, from the IWA, and from British Waterways has, we believe, brought us to the point where a major publicity initiative is called for. The full-colour covers to our newsletter, sponsored by the SankeyNOW initiative were the start, and we've had a few more mentions in the waterways press lately (including in the international IWI News) - watch out for more! David Long, Chairman, SCARS
