Neil Arlidge, who has just piloted the first narrowboat for over a hundred years through Fidlers' Ferry Lock onto the Sankey, is rewarded with a SCARS' mug by our Chairman, Canon David Long, on June 29th. Neil and his crew are on a mission to take the boat, the Earnest, onto every navigable waterway in the country - and are looking forward to returning to the Sankey via the proposed link from the Leeds & Liverpool Canal and visiting St. Helens, Warrington and Widnes without having to brave the tidal Mersey. See "Photos of Earnest" for more pictures of the crew's trip from the Manchester Ship Canal to the Sankey and on to Liverpool on the Mersey tideway. In this issue: From the Chair
