Maintenance Craft of the Sankey

The source of this view on the left, of a crane unloading dredgings from a hopper opposite Sankey Sugar Works, is unknown. The other shot was taken by Professor Theo Barker as part of his 1948 study of the Sankey, but was not used in the published version - which is once again available as a reprint from SCARS.

These four views are by Peter Norton. On the right above is a maintenance flat equipped with a small crane, moored at Penketh, whilst below it is a much-published picture of the dredger Widnes at Bewsey. The two views on the right are of maintenance boats moored at Sankey Bridges - Hood Lane in the background above, the lift bridge, lead works, and Clare & Ridgeway's offices visible below.
