From the Chair

At our Annual Meeting in March the Head of Economic Development with St. Helens Metropolitan Borough Council, Marc Cole, brought Members up-to-date with the progress which has been made towards restoration in the past few months. There is no doubt that we have entered upon a new phase - and perhaps the most significant sign of the changes which have taken place was the Presentation which Marc has put together, and which he ran through at our AGM. The content was good (see the resume of it below) - but best was the fact that it was a senior Local Authority Officer who had compiled it. Restoring the Sankey has moved up the Agenda.

SCARS is keen to do its bit, too. We have moved to a more professional means of producing this Newsletter, after various experiments over the past year. This has been assisted by a grant from SankeyNow, specifically for the colour printing of the cover. Also, with this Newsletter, you will be receiving a newly-produced Membership Leaflet, which we hope you will pass on to a friend or colleague - a growth in our membership would help us make the case for restoration. You will also by now have received the Annual Report, together with a copy of "Off-cuts", our new website "broadsheet", designed to fill in between issues of CANAL CUTTINGS to help our Members and Partners keep up with the more rapid progress towards restoration which is taking place these days.
