Fifty Years Ago - February, 1953: Bewsey Swing Bridge, leading to Bewsey Lodge and the Old Hall - and to living quarters for the Americans based at RAF Burtonwood, which accounts for the evidence of heavy use by vehicles across the bridge. It can also be seen that the bridge had not been swung to allow boats to pass through since the snow had fallen. Perhaps the canal was frozen and traffic suspended until the ice-breaker could break a path through.
