Jeff Dennison

Pictured at the SCARS' Millennium Folk Evening in February 2001 is Jeff Dennison, who died on October 9th.

It was through the Internet newsgroup, uk.rec.waterways, that I first came into contact with Jeff. Partly with the support of IWA members who contributed to that newsgroup, Jeff was elected to the IWA's Council in 1996. The bee he had in his bonnet at the time was the Boat Safety Scheme, which made no allowances for boaters like him who were trying to keep historic boats afloat. Sadly his Bantock Butty "Coronation" had to be sold when he became ill, but he continued to serve on the Committee of the Historic Narrow Boat Owners Club until his death.

Fortunately, the CD and Video he and his partner Benny Graham made of their show "They're Coming Back to the Water" lives on as a reminder of a larger than life personality, with an abiding interest in people and their needs.
