A major boost to our Work Party's efforts at Newton Common Lock came in September in the shape of a JCB, hired for us through the joint efforts of St. Helens MBC and the SankeyNOW project. The machine is shown landscaping the area around the lock by spreading the spoil it has removed from the lock area itself. The lock's prominent position beside the road, and within site of the Earlestown viaduct, has ensured our Work Parties a regular flow of interested passers-by.

There are more of George Bruce's Pictures of our work at Newton Common Lock in "Restoration Photos". By chance, the visit of the Chairman of British Waterways followed soon after - and there are also pictures of his visit to the site.
