Our Exhibition and Sales Stall

The season started at the beginning of April with a 'Holiday Hullabaloo' put on by the Rangers at Bewsey. Not quite as boisterous as the name suggests but we enjoyed the day and it was good to take part in an event in Warrington. On Spring Bank Holiday we went to the Newton Rural Craft Fair, a new venue for us. It was a warm sunny day, the stall was extremely busy with both sales and enquiries and there was a real holiday atmosphere. Thanks to Neil Forshaw for his help.

On the hottest weekend in the middle of June we took the stall to the Boat Jumble at Spike Island. To make life easier we decided to go on Saturday afternoon and stay the night, which was fine except that the caravan fridge refused to work and the pitch was on what felt like a 1 in 4 slope! The site was buzzing with arrivals by 6.30am so it was a long hot day until the downpour came as we finished packing away for the day. We sold more to the stallholders on Saturday evening than we did to visitors on Sunday morning, but after lunch sales stepped up very well.

The Halton Show was our next event. It was a hot, sultry weekend, and we were grateful for assistance from Peter Keen and Neil Forshaw (above), and from our Chairman, as the crowds of visitors came and went from our Stall. We did very well over the weekend.

Our next outing will be to the IWA National Festival at Preston Brook over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Our stocks have become depleted after the shows we've done so far, so if anyone is clearing out, and has bric-a-brac or toys to spare, we will be able to make good use of them on the stall, please. Thank you for all the carrier bags and especially those that keep appearing under the caravan but I think we are stocked up now until about 2007!

A Note from the Treasurer

Thank you to everyone who has been able to gift aid their subscriptions and donations, it is appreciated and SCARS will benefit again this year by approximately £300.

I would like to remind you too that the new scheme for giving to charity through the tax return is under way now. People who complete a Self Assessment tax return will be able to nominate a charity to receive all or part of any repayment due to them. Lists of participating charities together with an identification code are shown on the Inland Revenue web site. SCARS is a member of the scheme so if anyone would like to nominate the Society to receive a tax repayment then please enter JAG39UG on your tax return and the Inland Revenue will do the rest.
