Restoration Round-Up

Hulme Lock Cottage

At the beginning of March Roy Forshaw and Peter Keen spent a day surveying the cottage and surrounding area so that accurate drawings could be produced for future reference.

During the rest of this period work as progressed on the rebuilding of the cottage walls to the eventual capping in blue brick. Blue brick being used to enhance the outline of the cottage by contrasting with the old brick used in the rebuild. This work as been done by our expert brickie Dennis Rowe with some help from the less expert brickies and a lot of hard graft from volunteers in cleaning old bricks, mixing cement and generally fetching and carrying.

Other work on the site as consisted of laying a brick floor in cellar No.1 and wooden revetments being built into the centre area of the cottage. i.e. between the two cellars. (Photo Currently Missing - Phil)

Once again many thanks to everyone who as turned out during this period. Anyone wanting details of work parties please contact me on:
