SCARS Team Masters
The St Helens Corporate Cup Course

by George Bruce

Four members of SCARS executive committee successfully completed the 5 kilometer fun run/walk round St. Helens town centre in September. The SCARS team of four were Peter Keen, Pat Robinson, Brendan Cassin and George Bruce. They set off at a sedate pace, in keeping with the Sankey Canal’s heyday, leaving the seriously fit athletes to disappear into the distance in a cloud of dust at the hyperactive pace of modern times. The back up ambulance shepherded the stragglers along, closely following on the heels of the SCARS team. George felt a trifle uneasy about the proximity of the medics and jogged off ahead. Brendan had a problem parking at the start, so began late at a jog, soon catching up on Pat and Peter who continued at a brisk gait. In the end, the team finished within two minutes of each other. Total team time was 189 minutes and 29 seconds. Though obviously not on the prize list, the team received a certificate for completing the course, and each team member proudly clutched a commemorative mini-plaque at the finish.
