Mayoral Launch for Canal Towpath Leaflets

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of North West Water, Mersey Basin Trust and the three local authorities of Halton, St.Helens and Warrington, the Sankey Canal Restoration Society has been able to publish a set of eight Towpath Trail leaflets and a guide book relating to the Sankey Canal.

To mark the occasion representatives of the sponsors, the Society, council officers and the Mayors of the three boroughs through which the canal passes gathered in the Mayor’s parlour at St.Helens Town Hall to celebrate the launch the new publications.

The leaflets and the guide book are the work of SCARS’ members Peter Keen and Colin Greenall who have spent countless hours researching the history of the canal as well as walking its course many times. Each of the 8 leaflets contains a centre-page map and notes on points of interest. The guide book gives a more in-depth look at what can still be found to interest the canal enthusiast or to anyone who just likes walking. The leaflets cost £1.00 per set, and the guide book costs £2.50

Anyone wishing to obtain copies can do so at their main libraries in Halton, St.Helens and Warrington. It will also be available from the Groundwork Trust office in Shaw Street, St.Helens or by post c/o 16 Bleak Hill Road, Eccleston, St.Helens, WA10 4RW. Please add 50p if ordering by post.
