COMING EVENTS
Walks along the Sankey Canal
The main casualty of the late publication of CUTTINGS has been publicity
for this season’s series of Walks organised by Colin Greenall. Hopefully,
word-of-mouth supplied him with large enough groups of followers.
Organisations are reminded that Colin is very happy to do one-off Guided
Walks. Please contact him on 01744 731746.
Barker & Harris return to St Helens: Friday, September 20th
Professors Theo Barker and John Harris - ex St. Helenians and authors of
"St. Helens - A Merseyside Town in the Industrial Revolution" - will be
talking , probably about Ravenhead; as part of the Library Centenary
Celebrations. The talk will be on Friday evening 20th September. Admission
is by ticket only, price £2.00, available from St. Helens Central Library
from June 1st.
OUT AND ABOUT WITH SCARS
The sales team will be visiting various Rallies and local Shows as usual
this summer. Most of the events are for either two or three days and
extra help for the stalls would be very welcome. We can also use your
unwanted bric-a-brac, toys, books, jigsaws, etc. All gratefully received.
Please let Cynthia Greenall know if anything needs to be collected,
telephone 01744 731746.
So far we are booked in at the following venues with a few likely local
events in-between:
20/21 July - Halton Show
26/27/28 July - St Helens Show
24/25/26 August - Black Country National Waterways Festival
(If anyone has a boat available for our team to use at this Rally, please
get in touch)
We have already taken part in the following Events: 4/5/6 May - Waterways
for All - Castlefield, and 18/19 May - Haigh Country Park Canal and Boat
Festival.
Members might like to know that we have recently taken delivery of a stock
of specially-printed tea towels, featuring the Sankey Canal and the
Earlestown Viaduct. Five drawings were commissioned for the towels, based
on old prints of this famous scene. The towel is emblazoned An Historic
Transport Crossing Place, and is printed in blue or black on a white towel.
They cost £2.50p each, and can be obtained from the SCARS stall at the
Events listed above, or at one of our Meetings in the Autumn, or (+ postage)
from Cynthia direct.
Also, on order is a new SCARS’ mug, using one of the drawings commissioned
for the tea towels. Thanks to a donation from Crosfields Chemicals, we are
able to offer these at the price of £1.50p, unchanged from the earlier
design. Availability as for the tea towels.
