Two views from the northernmost end of the Sankey: Above - the outfall from Carr Mill Dam, constructed as a reservoir for the canal, runs under the railway between St Helens and Wigan. Below - the feeder stream near the Blackbrook Basin is crossed by stepping stones which themselves have a history, as blocks beneath old tramways between nearby pits and the canal.
